FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS about Smartlipo
How do I get started?
Initially, you will be required to have a consultation with the Doctor to discuss your own individual needs and desires. There will be a fee for the consultation which will then be deducted from the amount of the surgery should you still wish to proceed. During the consultation, the Doctor will discuss the preceedure in more depth. This will be the time for you to ask any questions you have regarding the proceedure or after effects. Should you still wish to go ahead with the proceedure after the consultation, you will be required to sign a consent form as well as have some pictures taken of the areas you would like to be treated.
What will SmartLipo cost me?
Overall cost depends on the extent of the treatment. Again, this will be discussed during initial consultation
What body areas can be treated with SmartLipo?
Beacause Smartlipo is minimally invasive, more areas can be treated in comparison to traditional Liposuction. The areas amenable to treatment are the upper and lower abdomen the inner and outer thighs, the underside of the chin, the back of the arms and the areas surrounding the knee.
How long does the procedure last?
About an hour, however it depends on the area to be treated. When larger areas of fat need to be addressed, a course of SmartLipo treatments are normally the best option to achieve the results you desire.
Can SmartLipo treatments be repeated?
Yes. Unlike traditional Liposuction, the same area can be treated in successive sessions. In fact, when larger areas of fat need to be addressed, a course of SmartLipo treatments is likely the best option to sculpt the final result
Is it safe?
Yes, because Laserlipolisis only hits the adipocytes and by coagulating the small vessels reduces any blood loss without causing damage to nerves or surrounding tissues.
Who can not have Smartlipo?
Yes. Your weight should not exceed 25% of your ideal weight. Your blood, heart, liver and kidneys should be free from any disorders and your should not be taking any anticoagulants or be diabetic. You should ideally have a good healthy diet and carry out regular exercise. All of the above will be dicussed during your initial consutation as well as your full medical history.
What ages can be treated with SmartLipo?
All ages can be treated provided you are reasonably healthy. Good results depend more on your level of physical activity, health and skin tone than your age.
How many treatments are necessary?
Just one session is necessary for localised adiposity while for areas with larger volumes of fat it is possible to repeat the treatment until obtaining the desired results.
Does SmartLipo Hurt?
No. A local anaesthetic is applied to the area to be treated and the procedure is virtually painless.
Are there any side effects?
Minor bruising or discomfort may occur in the short term. Antibiotics are prescribed to help prevent post-treatment infection.
Are the results permanent?
Yes. Your body will not produce any new fat cells to replace the ones melted by SmartLipo. You should try to maintain a healthy diet to prevent the swelling of the remaining fat cells in the body.
How long is the recovery time after the treatment?
The patient can return to his/her normal life practically straight after the session even if intense sporting activities and saunas are advised against for two weeks, and deep massages for four to five weeks.
Will there be any scarring?
Due to the small size of the cannular being used during the proceedure, you should be left with no or almost no scar.
After how much time can the results be seen ?
You will be a bit swollen from the anaesthetic and trauma to the fat cells immediately after the surgery. The swelling should reduce within 24 - 48 hours. If the doctor applies light aspiration after using the laser device, then the results may be visible immediately and will continue to improve gradually over the following three to four months. If aspiration is not applied, the results will be visible after three to four months. This is the time necessary for eliminating the lysate and achieving a tightening of the skin due to the stimulation of collagen production.
